“Annexation of Greenland ‘Inevitable’ – POLITICO”

Response from Greenland

Múte B. Egede, the leader of Greenland, promptly addressed Trump’s remarks on Thursday, declaring that “enough is enough” and convening a meeting with the island’s party leaders to “solidify our rejection of Trump.”

Egede is nearing the end of his term after a loss in Greenland’s elections on Tuesday, which Trump characterized as “a good election for us.” The U.S. president praised the election victor, Jens-Frederik Nielsen of the Democratic Party, as “a very good person.”

The Democrats, who secured victory with 30 percent of the vote, are recognized for their pro-business stance that advocates for Greenland’s independence through increased economic opportunities. They have been vocal about overturning the prohibition on mining the island’s natural resources.

Nonetheless, Nielsen and the Democrats have robustly asserted that Greenland is not for sale and have dismissed the notion of it becoming a part of the United States.

Nielsen condemned Trump’s remarks as unacceptable.

“Trump’s statement from the USA is inappropriate and once again emphasizes the need for us to stand together in such situations,” he shared on social media on Thursday.
