Mike Krzyzewski is set to retire after the 2020-21 season. The legend has taken the Blue Devils to a record 5 titles in his 40 years at the university. He won 1,170 games, which stands as an NCAA record.

Known as Coach K by most, he will hang up his boots after the current season, as confirmed by the university.

Mike Krzyzewski said that this was a day of celebration for him and his family. It has given him immense joy to be part of the individual endeavor of every player and their life off it. He said his family was forever grateful to all those who have helped him in his 46 years career.

An Enviable List Of Records For Mike Krzyzewski 

He took over in 1980 in Durham, North Carolina and since then has led the team to 97 NCAA tournament victories. In addition, there have been a dozen Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season titles, 12 more times in the Final Fours, 15 ACC Crowns, and finally 5 national championship crowns.

Under Krzyzewski, Duke University first won in 1991-92, 2001, 10, and 15.

Officials of Duke University were effusive in their praise for Mike Krzyzewski. It was a legacy that would never be repeated said Duke University VP, and Kevin White, Director of Athletics. It would be an understatement to say that Mike Krzyzewski was the greatest of all times among the coaching community.

Mike Krzyzewski, a former military officer, announced his retirement a couple of months after Roy Williams, head coach at UNC, retired this April. He had been a coach at the USMA prep school before moving to Indiana University. He returned to West Point in 1975 before finally joining Duke University in 1980.

Roy Williams said that theirs had been one of the greatest rivalries and he had been fantastic for the game and college basketball. Jon Scheyer, a former player at the university and present assistant coach will succeed Mike Krzyzewski. A press conference is scheduled for this Thursday.
