CBS and Other Paramount Channels Set to Vanish from YouTube TV Due to Contract Dispute

Channels owned by Paramount, including CBS, Comedy Central, and MTV, are expected to become unavailable on YouTube TV Thursday night if a contract renewal is not finalized, according to statements from both companies.

“The agreement between Paramount and Google’s YouTube TV for the distribution of CBS, Nickelodeon, and 21 other networks is nearing its expiration,” Paramount disclosed on a dedicated webpage addressing the business conflict. “YouTube TV is trying to coerce Paramount into accepting unfavorable and one-sided terms.”

“We have been diligently working to secure a fair deal with Paramount that enables us to retain their channels, such as CBS and CBS Sports, on YouTube,” stated YouTube in a programming update from Alphabet. “If we’re unable to reach an agreement and their content remains unavailable for a prolonged period, we’ll provide subscribers with an $8 credit.”

YouTube TV also informed its users that they can subscribe to Paramount+ to continue accessing CBS and related programming.

Neither Paramount nor Google responded immediately to requests for comments.

The streaming service boasts over 8 million subscribers, as noted by YouTube CEO Neal Mohan last year.

This dispute follows YouTube TV’s decision earlier this year to raise the price of its basic plan by $10 to $82.99 monthly.
