We’re living in a world where your skills really pay the bills. The job specialities you can list on your resumé are what will set you apart when you’re applying for a job and there is more time in the day to work on them than you may think.

For those who travel regularly, apps and websites can provide plenty of self-improvement projects to make the most of this time. Here are just a few examples.

Learn To Code

Coding is the career of the future and now is the best time to learn. In some industries, every aspect from top to bottom requires software design in some way, especially with those using interactive media such as entertainment apps and online casinos. In the latter case, coding is involved in everything from their websites to the slot and table games they offer all the way through to their customer service systems. When a player starts casino gambling at Paddy Power or any other provider, they are going through the work of dozens of specialists behind the scenes.

Thankfully, coding has some of the most comprehensive digital resources out there for learning and most of them are free. Platforms like Codecademy can be a starting point as their free tutorials cover a range of common coding languages and, if you want, they have an optional premium service featuring full practice materials as well.

Learn A Language

This one may be the most well-known of our options but learning an extra language can now be done effectively even on short travel hops. Most people by now will have heard of the DuoLingo app, however, there are a number of alternatives like FluentU and more that can offer similar services if the little owl doesn’t work out for you.

So why is learning a language such a good idea? The world is a smaller and smaller place these days, and knowing a foreign language has gone from something of a novelty to a key factor in getting a job in many industries. Customer service aside, it’s a valued skill in design, engineering, corporate management, and more.

Puzzle It Out

For puzzles, we’re not talking about your regular crosswords here. While those and things like sudoku are great for keeping your mind active, there are also things like logical and lateral thinking puzzles which give more ‘real-life’ problems to solve. These can boost your critical thinking skills and can train demonstratable abilities that are prized in the workplace.

You can also consider trying out some online jigsaw puzzles which are often overlooked by busy professionals. Major publications like Fortune have long raved about the potential brain benefits of doing more complex puzzles and now there are a number of digital versions available from sites like Jigsaw Planet and Jigsaw Explorer so you can fit some in during your commute. This last point may sound odd but it’s a proven concept!

There are plenty of other projects and activities you can try that we didn’t have space to mention here, but hopefully, this will inspire you to start making your next career move while you’re moving!
