Colin Powell was the Republican Secretary to State. However, he has resigned from this post and has severed all ties with the Republican Party.
On 10th January 2021, Sunday, Colin Powell expressed his deep disappointment regarding the riots that took place on 6th January, Wednesday at the Capitol Hill building in Washington D.C. He also shared that he is not a Republican any longer.
Capitol Riots Compel Colin Powell To Resign
Colin Powell has recently informed about his decision of withdrawing his position at the Republican Party. This is mainly due to the reason that there was immense violence that led to the death of 5 people including a Capitol police officer.
Powell believes that this riot took place mainly at the instigation of Donald Trump who incited his supporters to wreaked havoc. He also felt that the other Republicans have been refusing to admit this fact.
Also, the Republicans have not condemned Trump who, according to him, has become extremely wild and is becoming exponentially dangerous to the democracy of the United States of America.
Powell admits to voting for the Republican, On the other hand, he does not agree to stand by this violence and chaos. As a responsible citizen, he has decided to speak up and do what is right according to him.
In addition to these, Powell has also demanded an immediate resignation from Donald Trump and an apology. He feels ashamed to be a part of the political party that Trump belongs to.
