DOGE Faces Resistance from Appointees of Donald Trump

ON FEBRUARY 22nd, Elon Musk made a total of 158 posts on X, the social media platform he owns. However, this was not his sole method of communication. That Saturday afternoon, every civilian federal employee—approximately 2.3 million individuals—received an email from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). They were instructed to respond by midnight on February 24th with roughly five bullet points detailing “what you accomplished last week,” while excluding any classified content. Mr. Musk has expressed his belief that some government employees do so little that “they are not even checking their email.” In fact, he implied that certain government workers might not even exist. Based on his posts on X, any employee who fails to respond will be deemed as having resigned.
