Elon Musk made a visit to the Pentagon on Friday morning for discussions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding “innovation, efficiencies & smarter production,” as Hegseth mentioned in a post on X the previous evening.
Hegseth refuted a claim by the New York Times stating that Musk would receive a briefing on potential war strategies involving China, calling it “fake news” in his post. A defense official noted that the head of the Department of Government Efficiency conferred with senior military leaders, including Gen. David Allvin, who is the Air Force chief of staff.
Upon leaving the Pentagon, Musk and Hegseth shook hands, with Musk expressing his willingness to offer assistance, saying, “If there’s anything I can do to be helpful, I’d like to see you.”
Although Musk does not serve as a military adviser to the president, he has been leading efforts to streamline the federal government, which includes the Defense Department. His companies, such as Starlink and SpaceX, have government contracts with various federal agencies, including NASA, the Space Force, and the Air Force.
On Friday, Hegseth and Mr. Trump are expected to announce a contract award for the production of sixth-generation fighter jets.
