Regis Philbin, Legendary Television Host, Dies at 88

Longtime TV show host Regis Philbin died on 24th July, aged 88. “We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved Regis Philbin passed away last night of natural causes, one month shy of his 89th birthday,” his family shared.

The grieving family mentioned how they are grateful for wonderful the time they spent with Regis. His passion, his fabulous sense of humor, and his singular talent to make every day into something worthwhile are what he will be remembered for. They thanked the fans for their unbelievable support across his career of over 60 years. Now the family requests privacy from the public eye while they mourn.

Regis started his career in 1988 as host of Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee with Kathie Lee Gifford. The gig continued for 15 years after which he left.

Regis was the initial host of the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? where he appeared between 1999 and 2002. His other hosting credits are the 1st season of America’s Got Talent, Million Dollar Password, and he was also a reoccurring co-host on Rachael Ray.

Regis grew up in the Bronx. He studied in Cardinal Hayes High School and graduated in 1949. He went to the University of Notre Dame next, earning a degree in sociology in 1953.

He went to serve in the Navy, but joined the show business as a writer. By 1961, he got a place on a local talk show named The Regis Philbin Show.

Regis would have turned 89 on 25th August, 2020.
