President Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff is set to engage with Russian President Vladimir Putin this Friday, as reported by Russian state media citing the Kremlin.
This marks Witkoff’s third visit to Russia and his meetings with Putin since Trump returned to the White House.
In a statement from Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the state’s TASS news agency disclosed that discussions will revolve around a “Ukrainian resolution” and the possibility of a future summit between Trump and Putin.
Nonetheless, Peskov has indicated that no significant developments are anticipated from this meeting.
This development follows a recent exchange involving a dual U.S.-Russian national, Ksenia Karelina, sentenced to 12 years in a Russian prison, who was swapped for Arthur Petrov, accused of leading a global smuggling spy ring.
Trump has consistently advocated for an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and has previously voiced criticism of both Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Putin.
