Senator Elissa Slotkin from Michigan is providing the Democratic rebuttal to President Trump’s address to the joint session of Congress.
Slotkin’s reply commenced immediately after Mr. Trump’s speech, which was noted as the lengthiest of its kind.
Slotkin was elected in November after serving in the House for Michigan since 2019, succeeding longtime Senator Debbie Stabenow. At 48 years old, she is a former CIA officer with experience in national security roles during both the Bush and Obama administrations. In the House, she gained a reputation for her bipartisan efforts, committing during her campaign to bring this cooperative spirit to the Senate.
