Scrim, a white Terrier known for his adventurous spirit, has once again captured the hearts of many in New Orleans after his latest rescue was announced by a local animal organization on Tuesday. This is the third time Scrim has been saved after several daring escapes last year.
Scrim was discovered Tuesday morning by a member of the nonprofit group Trap Dat Cat, as reported by Zeus’ Rescues, another local animal organization.
The lively Terrier had been on the loose since November, when he famously leapt 13 feet from a second-story window while under the care of Michelle Cheramie of Zeus’ Rescues.
“He has endured quite an adventure since jumping out of that window in November,” Cheramie shared in an Instagram update on Wednesday. “He had to navigate a new area of New Orleans, taking a month to trek from Uptown to Mid-City successfully! On Christmas Day, Scrim got lost in Old Metairie, then mysteriously reappeared in Harrahan before making his way back to Mid-City. He withstood thunderstorms and the booming sounds of New Year’s fireworks, which terrified him. He even saw the beginning of the Mardi Gras season and the Super Bowl.”
Following his most recent rescue, Scrim received a veterinary examination and X-rays. Aside from having tapeworms and intestinal parasites, he was deemed to be in “good health,” Cheramie reported. Once he fully recovers, Zeus “has a new forever home ready for him, equipped with ample outdoor space and other canine companions to aid in his socialization,” she added.
Cheramie initially saved Scrim in early 2024, but he managed to escape in April and continued to avoid capture, being spotted on various local security cameras throughout the city.
He was found again in October, where he received medical care for injuries sustained during his time on the run, which included two embedded projectiles—likely from a pellet gun—abraded skin, and a piece of his ear missing.
Scrim’s remarkable escapes have made him a viral sensation. Numerous people in New Orleans reported sightings of him, and a map was created to track his movements in hopes of capturing him.
In partnership with community volunteers and Trap Dat Cat, Zeus’ Rescues established food stations and trail cameras to keep tabs on Scrim’s whereabouts following his November escape, as reported by CBS affiliate WWL-TV. During his time on the lam, Scrim even managed to brave a historic 10 inches of snow that fell in New Orleans in January.
“He has survived hurricanes, blizzards, fireworks, streetcars, traffic, and being chased… He’s truly a remarkable dog,” Cheramie told WWL.
