White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized Democrats for behaving like “children” during President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday.
“The conduct of the Democrats last night was utterly disgraceful and showcased their disconnect from the American people,” Leavitt remarked to reporters at a White House briefing on Wednesday. “It was one of the most shameful moments in the history of presidential addresses and tarnished that esteemed chamber, which was meant to symbolize unity for our nation.”
As Trump began his speech, Democrats reacted with boos, prompting Republicans to counter with chants of “USA.” Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, was notably disruptive, shouting and waving his cane at Trump. This provocation led Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., to instruct the Sergeant-at-Arms to remove Green from the session.

Leavitt further criticized Democrats for not standing in support of “everyday Americans” like DJ Daniel, a 13-year-old cancer survivor. Trump acknowledged Daniel during his address and officially swore him in as a member of the Secret Service. While he received applause from many, not all Democrats participated.
Moreover, Leavitt asserted that Democrats disregarded the mothers of Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray, both of whom were tragically murdered by illegal immigrants.
“Last night served as a pivotal moment for our country,” Leavitt stated. “The Democrats revealed themselves as the party of madness and hatred, the party that seeks to prioritize everything over America. Their obsession with undermining Trump has blinded them from celebrating our nation and its citizens, and we will ensure they cannot forget this.”
During his address, Trump conveyed that his administration is committed to seizing “America’s destiny” and declared that “this will be our greatest era,” vowing to work towards creating the most liberated civilization.

In addition, Trump pledged to reduce inflation and wage a concerted effort against drug cartels. He called on Congress to increase funding for border security to cover the costs of deportations, noting that his administration has initiated the most extensive border and immigration enforcement in U.S. history.
Meanwhile, Republicans are pushing for consequences regarding Democrats’ behavior on Tuesday. Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, is leading an initiative to file a censure resolution against Green for “willfully disrupting the joint session, remaining defiant,” and “bringing disrepute to the United States Congress,” according to a draft reviewed by Fox News Digital.
A censure resolution serves as a formal disapproval from the House towards member misconduct that does not warrant expulsion. The House would pass the resolution with a majority vote, after which the censured member is read the resolution in the well of the House as a reprimand.

However, Green expressed his willingness to accept any repercussions for his actions.
“I am ready to face any punishment that may come my way,” Green stated on Tuesday, according to the White House press pool report. “I haven’t asked anyone not to punish me. I fully accept the consequences.”
