Protests from the American Left Oppose Donald Trump

SOME CALIFORNIANS found themselves navigating heavy traffic on their journey to Coachella, the desert music festival, over the weekend. Meanwhile, on April 12th, a distinctly different concert experience unfolded near City Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Headlined by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the “Fighting Oligarchy” rally felt like a throwback to an era spanning from 1968 to 2025. A silver-haired Joan Baez inspired the audience with her pledge not to allow “those lousy billionaires” to deter her. Neil Young called for a collective effort to “take America back!” As attendees voiced their discontent with President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, they also enjoyed the music of Maggie Rogers, who perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the gathering by greeting the crowd of 36,000 with, “Welcome to Berniechella.”
