Early Sunday, personnel from the Secret Service shot a man who displayed a firearm, resulting in an “armed confrontation” close to the White House, according to a statement from the Secret Service.
The individual was transported to a local hospital, although his condition remains unknown, the agency reported.
As per the Secret Service, they received a report about a man with “suicidal intentions” potentially en route from Indiana. Around midnight, they located the man’s parked vehicle near the White House and noticed someone matching his description walking nearby, the agency stated.
When officers approached, the man reportedly brandished a firearm, leading to an “armed confrontation” where the suspect was shot by the Secret Service. No injuries were reported among the Secret Service agents.
At the time, President Trump was not at the White House, as he was spending the weekend at Mar-a-Lago.
