Renowned author Stephen King made an unexpected return to X on February 20, delivering sharp criticisms aimed at President Trump and Elon Musk, the latter being the owner of the platform. After announcing his departure from X three months prior due to Trump’s reelection, King had designated Bluesky as his social media refuge.
“I’m baaaack! Did you miss me?” King tweeted to his 6.8 million followers, adding, “Just wanted to say that Trump is a traitorous, Putin-loving dipshit! Same goes for Elon!”
His exit from X was announced on November 14, 2024, where he stated, “I’m leaving Twitter. Tried to stay, but the atmosphere has just become too toxic. Follow me on Threads, if you like.” He subsequently attracted a following on Bluesky, continuing his vocal criticism of Trump.
“Just when you think Donald Trump cannot sink lower or be more shameful, he’s blaming Ukraine for the war and calling Zelensky a dictator, fully aware that Putin’s constant re-elections are fixed,” King commented on Bluesky just a day prior to his return to X.
A week before his return to X, King expressed on Bluesky, “Trump and Musk are essentially disregarding the Constitution they — Trump, at least — swore to uphold.”
King resurfaced on X right before the theatrical debut of Osgood Perkins’ “The Monkey,” which is an adaptation of his short story. Currently, he is not promoting the film on the platform, choosing instead to critique Trump and Musk. His latest post garnered over 100,000 likes within just four hours.
