Secretary of State Marco Rubio today supported Trump’s tariffs, stating that the U.S. will soon determine whether Russia is genuinely interested in negotiating a peace agreement with Ukraine.
“We need to return to an era when our country was capable of manufacturing. To achieve that, a reset of the global trade order is essential,” Rubio remarked to reporters at NATO headquarters in Brussels, where he attended a meeting with foreign ministers. “We must be able to produce goods to create jobs for Americans.”
“The president has wisely concluded that the current state of global trade is detrimental to America and beneficial for others,” he noted. “He’s going to initiate a reset, and that is the right course of action.”
Regarding discussions on a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, Rubio expressed optimism about the possibility of peace, indicating that Trump is eager to conclude the war, though Russian President Vladimir Putin must also demonstrate a desire for peace.
“We will soon find out, within weeks rather than months, whether Russia is committed to peace,” Rubio stated. “I hope they are. It would be advantageous for the world if that conflict were resolved, but we must evaluate that claim.”
