Brian Kemp, the Republican governor of Georgia, urged fellow members of his party to move past the presidential election of 2020. He used the chance to make a slight but apparent criticism of Donald Trump, the former president, as well as his continuing grievances about the matter.

Brian Kemp Takes Aim At Donald Trump

Brian Kemp took care not to specifically name Donald Trump while speaking in Nashville during a private donor retreat for the Republican National Committee. However, he pointed out how no swing voter from any swing state can be expected to vote for the party’s nominee if they continue talking about how the elections of 2020 were stolen.

Brian Kemp added that for voters who are struggling to pay rent, make the down payment for the cars, or get enough money to finance their kids’ college education, 2020 is already “ancient history”. According to CNN, these were part of remarks prepared beforehand by Kemp’s staff.

Donald Trump publicly revealed his intention to be re-elected in the fall of last year. He had also continuously argued how there is no successful future in store for the Republicans, both vote-wise as well as legislatively if they ignore the past events.

The relationship between Brian Kemp and Donald Trump has been tense for several years. Trump had dubbed Kemp as his foremost enemy following Kemp’s unwillingness to overturn Biden’s 2020 victory in Georgia. Throughout 2021, Trump rallied against Kemp, and even recruited David Perdue, another former United States Senator, to oppose Brian Kemp during a primary of the GOP.

However, till now, Kemp has refused to be drawn into the fight. As such, the 2022 primary went overwhelmingly in the favor of Kemp, and he went on to defeat Stacey Abrams, his Democratic opponent, in the general elections in November.
