President Donald Trump has initiated the dismantling of the Voice of America, a U.S. government-funded media organization that has faced criticism from Trump for allegedly promoting biased news reporting.

"For years, Voice of America has been disconnected from American values. It acts as the voice of Radical America and has disseminated divisive propaganda," a senior White House official informed Fox News Digital.

On Friday, Trump signed an executive order mandating the dissolution of seven government offices, including the United States Agency for Global Media, the governing body of Voice of America (VOA) as well as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

"The non-statutory elements and functions of the following governmental entities shall be eliminated to the greatest extent permissible by law, and these entities shall minimize their statutory functions and associated personnel to the least presence and operation mandated by law," the EO states.

Kari Lake, appointed by Trump as the next head of VOA in December, currently serves as a senior advisor at the U.S. Agency for Global Media and has instructed staff to "check your email" for further information regarding their employment.

"The President has issued an Executive Order entitled Continuing the Reduction of the Federal Bureaucracy. This affects USAGM and its subsidiaries, including VOA and OCB. If you work for the agency, please check your email immediately for additional details," Lake, a former news anchor and Republican political candidate from Arizona, posted on X. OCB stands for the Office of Cuba Broadcasting, a government-funded Spanish language radio and TV service that operates Radio and TV Martí in Miami, Florida.

On Saturday, employees were informed via email that their jobs had been terminated, according to the Wall Street Journal, although the extent of the layoffs remains unclear.

The U.S. Agency for Global Media along with Lake released a statement on Saturday asserting that the agency is "beyond repair."

"From top to bottom, this agency is a massive drain on taxpayers—a national security concern for our country—and is irredeemably broken. While there are some capable and dedicated public servants within the agency, they are the exception rather than the norm," the press release stated.

It was further criticized for publishing a story and video that resembled a Biden campaign ad in 2020, as well as for downplaying the controversy surrounding Hunter Biden's laptop, which became a major focus during the final weeks of the 2020 presidential election.
