The U.S. initiated airstrikes in Yemen on Saturday, as President Trump declared that the U.S. would employ “overwhelming lethal force” until Houthis halt their attacks on shipping.
“Today, I ordered the United States Military to conduct decisive and powerful military actions against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen. They have carried out an ongoing campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism directed at American and other ships, aircraft, and drones,” Mr. Trump stated via social media.
He emphasized that these continuous assaults have cost the U.S. and the global economy billions of dollars and posed significant risks to innocent lives. He further asserted, “Your attacks must cease, starting today.”
A U.S. official confirmed the airstrikes to CBS News on Saturday, noting that reports of strikes in Sana’a are just the beginning.
