Aaron Boone, manager of the New York Yankees, is going to be on an urgent medical leave of absence following his surgery to install a pacemaker. The team announced that the surgery went smoothly and that Boone is recovering well. Brian Cashman, the general manager, even said that he would be fit to return in as soon as two days.

Boone, who is now 47, already had heart surgery back in 2009. Over the past two months, he had reported being tired and gasping for breath. On getting tested further, it was revealed that his pulse rate was low. This necessitated the surgery for the pacemaker.

Aaron Boone Is On The Road To Recovery

Boone himself highly praised his doctors and was hopeful of making a speedy return without any fears of future complications. In his absence, bench coach Carlos Mendoza was at the head for the exhibition match against Toronto. The Yankees won 4-1. Mendoza has been the bench coach for the team since 2020 but had joined in 2018.

The players were shown a video recording of Boone to allay their fears and keep their spirits high. Brett Gardner, a senior player of the Yankees, said that it was a shock to them at first. However, the video helped calm their worries. He said that the main focus for Aaron Boone in the video was to make sure everyone would continue putting in the same effort in his absence.

Cashman also added that he seemed to understand the situation very well, which was reassuring for him. Hal Steinbrenner, the owner of the Yankees, also conveyed that the whole organization is behind him and his family. He said that Boone will receive their wholehearted support while recovering as well.

Aaron Boone had led the Yankees to the AL Championship Series back in 2003. His family has been involved with baseball for three generations now.
