The 7th BAFTA award ceremony was held on the 10th of April. Two ceremonies of the award function were held on the day. A total of eight awards were given out on BAFTA Day 1. It was from the categories of the craft. The awards for the outstanding contribution towards the cinema were also given out on the same day. The main awards are to take place on the next day that is the 11th of April.

BAFTA Day 1 Honoured Late Prince Phillip

The host of BAFTA Day 1 was Clara Amfo, the British radio presenter. The opening of the ceremony was preceded by paying tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip passed away recently. The Duke left the world at 99 years of age. Prince Philip was the first-ever president of the British Academy of Films and Television Arts, (BAFTA). It took place almost 60 years ago. He is responsible for starting the patronage for the royal line. It will now be continued by Prince William, son of the late Prince Phillip.

The first winner from BAFTA Day 1 was “Rocks.” The one to take the awards for casting was Lucee Pardee. The movie falls under the UK Indie banner. It was nominated for a total of seven categories of BAFTA this year.

Netflix, one of the leading streaming channels, had a good evening at BAFTA Day 1. The reason for this is because it got nominated for a category of a total of 34 nominations. They became the first-ever streaming channel to earn that high number of nominations. Netflix also got awarded for categories like Hair and Makeup and Costume Design. It was awarded to “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Mank was awarded for the category of Production Design.
