A former supervisory FBI agent was detained in Oregon when it was claimed that on January 6, 2021, he approached the Capitol and challenged police officers outside, telling them: “You are the Nazi. The Gestapo is you. Shame on you. According to an affidavit submitted last month in federal court in Washington, D.C., Jared L. Wise, 50, worked for the FBI as a special agent and supervising agent from 2004 to 2017.

The FBI did not comment on Wise’s arrest or offer any details regarding his time spent working for the organization. According to the affidavit, a tipper informed the FBI in January 2022 that Wise had been present inside the Capitol throughout the riot in 2021.

Ex-FBI Supervisor Had A Hand In The Jan 6 Capitol Attack

According to the affidavit of Special Agent Jessica L. Stone, FBI agents received cell tower information indicating that Wise’s phone was in use outside the Capitol on Jan. 6.

The FBI then examined Capitol security footage as well as police body-camera footage. Wise was allegedly seen entering the structure through a Senate wing door at 2:23 p.m., approximately the time rioters initially broke into the Capitol. According to Stone’s statement, he was spotted going around the building and then departing nine minutes later.

In connection with the violence on January 6, at least 20 current or former law enforcement personnel have been detained. Thomas Webster, a former New York City police officer who engaged in a physical altercation with law enforcement at the Capitol, received the 10-year prison term that is the harshest of any of the more than 440 cases that have been resolved thus far. An active Rocky Mount, Virginia police officer named Thomas Robertson was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for his involvement in the riot.
