You could see a new one-time relief stimulus check rebate from a $1 billion pot. A tax credit of up to $500 could soon be offered to millions of Georgians. Governor Brian Kemp has suggested making the one-state’s $6.6 billion budget surplus. The Georgia state House approved the proposal on Thursday with a vote of 170 to 1, according to Associated Press. For further discussion, it will now travel to the state Senate.
Who Qualifies For This Special Rebate- Stimulus Check?
If the policy is implemented, it will be based on House Bill 1302, which provided Georgian taxpayers with a $500 rebate last year. This bill gave married couples filing jointly up to $375, and single people filing jointly up to $250. Residents who filed their tax returns in 2020 and 2021 were eligible for reimbursement. The majority of taxpayers received their money via paper checks delivered to them, but some who filed electronically also received a direct transfer.
The governor also discussed a $1 billion property tax relief scheme after the stimulus check, that had been authorized by the state House and would provide a $500 rebate to the typical homeowner in Georgia. A similar program was run by the state until 2009, when it was discontinued, according to the AP(additional premium). A further $1.1 billion of the excess would be transferred to the Department of Transportation in Georgia’s planned budget to pay for road maintenance.
This happened after Georgia’s Gas Tax, a significant source of funding for the department, was stopped last year. Also included in the budget is $100 million to assist regional school districts in covering the rising cost of individual health insurance and home loans.
