Super Mario Bros Movie Has Crossed Another Milestone

Super Mario Bros

The Super Mario Bros. Movie from Universal has likely reached its final significant box office milestone as it nears the end of its amazing theatrical run. As its incredible theatrical run comes to a conclusion, The animated video game version has broken numerous box office records in the roughly two months that it has been showing in theaters around the world. Despite this, Super Mario still has a reasonable chance of breaking one noteworthy record. If it manages to cling on for just a little bit longer, it may potentially exceed Incredibles 2’s $608 million overall gross and become the most profitable animated picture in American box office history.

Super Mario Bros Movie Is Behind Frozen 2

Super Mario Bros is currently just behind Frozen 2 on the all-time list, but it will take a major miracle to surpass that movie’s $1.45 billion lifetime worldwide gross. Despite this, there is still one significant record that Super Mario has a good chance of breaking. It may actually surpass Incredibles 2’s $608 million lifetime gross to become the most successful animated film in American box office history if it manages to hold on for just a little bit longer.

Super Mario has fared better than every Pixar movie ever made, every DreamWorks movie, every Blue Sky movie, and every Illumination movie combined in the past two months.

For context, it has outperformed each installment from the Toy Story, Shrek, Despicable Me, Kung Fu Panda, and Ice Age series, all of which are much more renowned.  The new animated film, directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, garnered mixed reviews but was effective in drawing audiences from a variety of backgrounds, including young children and their parents.
