On the day of the midterm elections, in which Republicans will attempt to seize control of Congress and state-level positions across the nation, an influential Russian businessman and close confidant of Vladimir Putin Yevgeny Prigozhin has admitted to meddling in US elections.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, who has already been charged with influencing the results of elections across continents, stated in a statement published by his catering business, Concord, “Gentlemen, we intervened, we are meddling, and we will meddle.”
Yevgeny Prigozhin Is Unapologetic
In response to a request for comment about a recent Bloomberg article alleging Russian meddling in Tuesday’s US midterm elections, Yevgeny Prigozhin sent the following statement.
The vote is significant for the legislative agenda for the remainder of US President Joe Biden’s term and might open the door for Donald Trump to make a comeback in the White House.
In the weeks leading up to the midterms in a variety of US states, notably Georgia, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, alleged Russian operatives have criticized Democratic politicians using far-right internet platforms, according to Graphika, a US social media analysis company.
As part of the special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential elections, Prigozhin was indicted in 2018. He was also joined by twelve other Russian people and three Russian corporations. Prior to the 2016 US presidential election, Prigozhin was accused of stirring up strife and dividing American public opinion. Both Prigozhin and the Kremlin have repeatedly refuted these allegations.
Since Putin’s invasion of Ukraine began, the once covert businessman has become one of Russia’s most prominent war supporters, sparking rumors that he wants a position in the administration.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, often known as “Putin’s chef,” acknowledged in September that he founded the infamous Wagner Group private military firm in 2014 after having his catering company organize dinners for the Russian president. For his part in Wagner, Prigozhin has already faced penalties from the US and EU.
