An emphatic performance helped Arsenal extend its Premier League lead to a comfortable 8 points following a two-goal away win in the hard-fought North London Derby. An own goal and a goal from Martin Odegaard increased the lead for the visiting team after he scored a low scorcher in the 36th minute.

The Spurs appeared lackluster throughout the game. The first goal for Arsenal came after a blunder by Hugo Lloris, the Spurs goalkeeper. He turned a Bukayo Saka cross into his goal in the fourteenth minute. The visitors were totally dominant in the first half.

Only the woodwork and a couple of brilliant saves from the Spurs goalkeeper prevented a massacre, even as Thomas Partey smashed a volley from a distance against the bar in the 24th minute.

Win Reinforces Belief That It Is A Special Year For Arsenal

Tottenham came back strongly following the break. But several brilliant saves by Aaron Ramsdale kept away the hosts and reinforced the conviction that this is a special year for Arsenal.

Arsenal last won the title in 2003-04. The Invincibles settled the season at White Hart Lane, the former Spurs stadium. It is a feat that the gunners never tire of reminding their North London opponents.

There is a long road yet for Mikel Arteta’s team to travel before they end their 19-year drought for the league title. But this win will be a major milestone if they finally make it. The win becomes more important because City lost the Manchester derby.

Man U and Newcastle both remain behind by 9 points while the Spurs are way behind by 14 points at the 5th spot. And they have played one game more than the gunners.

This win also remains one of their most dominating performances in the derby. Their previous meeting resulted in a three-goal loss in May 2022, which pushed them out of the top-four spot last season.
