For Barcelona, getting the La Liga title was still considerably tough. However, fans had expected them to at least continue winning the remaining games. Against Celta Vigo, the team could not manage that. As such, the title fight for the Blaugranas is over before the last weekend of the season.

Barcelona Ran The Show With A Disappointing End

Ronald Koeman’s men had excellently begun the game. Celta Vigo was looking lost and out of sorts. In the first half an hour, Lionel Messi scored once with many more chances going begging. Barcelona’s opposition had simply not turned up. Ter Stegen had a calm and relaxing time protecting Barca’s goal.

But then it all changed. Santi Mina scored for Celta Vigo in a quick and rare break from the side. The ball was cleared up-field which was then passed inside the box. Barcelona had four defenders grouped up in position, but Mina managed to pick the spot. Ter Stegen was left furious with his defenders.

This was the turning point. After that, every single weakness of Koeman’s Barcelona side was in full view. The defense had lost all organization. Ousmane Dembele could not find any support at the end of his runs and Messi was left with no space from the opposition defenders.

Koeman then resorted to giving Riqui Puig a decent chance on the field. He also used Pjanic, Trincao, and Braithwaite. In the closing thirty minutes of the game, the match had lost almost all tactics and strategies. Koeman was looking like a distraught figure who had already lost hope of getting the title.

The draw would have been disastrous enough for Barcelona. As such, Celta Vigo scoring a second late into the match made certain the end for this season’s race. By the time the match ended, Barcelona was being beaten at almost all parts of the field.
