Barcelona Dismantles David Beckham’s MLS Club

Before Inter Miami‘s friendly versus Barcelona, current coach Phil Neville called it “the biggest game in club history.”

Even if that is the case, the MLS team from Ft. Lauderdale’s DRV PNK Stadium will not look back on the preseason friendly against Barcelona with good recollections. From the first bell to the final touch, the Catalan club dominated play, applying constant pressure on Inter Miami. However, the home team scarcely had any chances in the offensive third, and they had almost no forward momentum.

New Boys Raphinha, Kessie Star In Barcelona Debut

The other three new recruits for Barcelona shone in the first half as Robert Lewandowski was still not ready to play. Raphinha led the team with a goal and two assists, while Franck Kessie orchestrated everything and Andreas Christensen smothered Gonzalo Higuain of their previous club Real Madrid.

The Barca bench dominated the second half against a 2nd Inter Miami team, scoring three goals.

David Beckham’s kid Romeo and Neville’s kid Harvey both made brief appearances off the substitute for Inter Miami, but it could not save a lopsided loss.

For a player as flashy as Raphinha to make his Barcelona debut in a city as flashy as Barcelona itself, it seemed almost fitting. After being traded from Leeds United, the Brazilian started the game and was the driving force, scoring a sneaky goal and setting up two others for theirs.

In his debut season with the Catalan club, he set the tone for what he hopes will be a season of redemption for Barcelona.

Equally outstanding was new recruit Franck Kessie, who orchestrated every Barça assault during the first half. The ex-AC Milan midfielder caused problems for Inter Miami all over the field.

There were countless instances where the Ivorian’s touch paid off handsomely.
