Democratic Presidential candidate, Joe Biden, revealed in his campaign on Thursday the names of the co-chairs of his Vice Presidential Selection Committee. The committee will be responsible for vetting potential contenders for the position of Veep.
Joe Biden announced in a fundraiser on Wednesday that he hopes the screening process will be over by July.
Former-member of Senate – Christopher Dodd, Congresswoman from Delaware – Lisa Blunt Rochestor, Cynthia Hogan – previous Senate counsel to Joe Biden, and Mayor Eric Garcetti are the selected chairpersons to aid in the vetting process.
Biden also mentioned that the selection committee will work along with other vetting teams.
He further said that he has consulted with former President Obama and would choose someone who has strengths that he doesn’t.
Joe Biden Commits To Having A Woman As His Running Mate
Joe Biden has publicly promised to search for a woman to be his Veep. He said he wants to pick someone whose views would be “simpatico” with his own.
A number of women are being considered for the position. Biden’s campaign team said they were in touch with them.
Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, California Senator Kamala Harris, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, and former House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams are in consideration for the post.
Joe Biden’s Administration “Will Look Like The Country”
Jen O’Malley Dillon, Biden’s campaign manager claimed that the selection process was of top-most priority.
Joe Biden has consistently pledged to turn his administration into one that “looks like America.” The former Veep also said that the co-chairs of the selection committee will focus on building a diverse administration.
Biden said it is likely that they will announce the Cabinet positions before November. He also said that he was open to include any Republican candidate who might be suitably qualified.
