Club America has managed to defeat Philadelphia in their face-off recently. The two teams met each other at the semifinal of the Concacaf Champions League. The match took place in Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca. The match was a thrilling affair with end-to-end actions at both ends. Both the teams tried to master their opponents, but America got the last laugh.

Club America One Step Closer To The Finals

The semifinal encounter took place on the evening of Thursday. The match saw the clash of tactics. Both the teams were not ready to give an inch to the other one. However, as the match progressed Club America looked the better side between the two. But initially, things were not so rosy for the Americans.

The simplest of the chances was presented to the Philadelphia team in the early minutes. Kasper Przybylko tried to backheel the ball into the nets very early. But his ambition cost him dearly. He lacked accuracy in his fancy attempt. The team saw the ball trickle agonizingly close past the goal.

This was a wake-up call for the Americans. From this instance onwards, there was no looking back. They consolidated their grasp in the game. They played short, crisp passes in between them. The hard work soon paid dividends. Richard Sanchez attempted a shot that deflected towards the goal to give them a 1-0 lead. It was unfortunate for Philadelphia as the goalie had his angles covered. The deflection left him with no chance of saving the shot.

Club America sealed the game when Emanuel Aguilera converted from the spot. The win hands the Americans a big advantage going into the second leg. They just have to focus and play their natural game to cement their spot in the finals.
