It has been well-documented that the federal government has been going out of its way to adjust everything from Social Security payments to tax brackets that could help in offsetting the record-high inflation. During this period, it might be a little too unreasonable to expect the government to issue another stimulus check payment.
As we know, the federal government did distribute around three separate payments between 2020 and 2021 to American citizens during the economic crisis that had been caused by the pandemic. The pandemic, for those who are not aware, also resulted in massive job loss, as well as business closures.
Stimulus Check Payments- A Possibility In 2023?
In April 2020, the Internal Revenue Service issued a stimulus check payment worth $1,200- in December 2020, the IRS also put out a check worth $600. And in March 2021, a check for $1,400 was issued. There are also individual states that have been issuing payments in varied amounts that have been quite impactful in dealing with the rising cost of inflation in lieu of checks from the federal government. In the state of New York, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance also issued payments of around $270 to eligible New Yorkers.
However, it must be mentioned that Congress has yet to pass any laws that would be authorizing another stimulus check payment. Also, the current POTUS, Joe Biden, has also made no mention of the government’s desire to do something similar. Interestingly, a petition on Change.org that began in 2020 to approve monthly payments has been making the rounds to date- but without any actual impact behind it.
