On Monday, the 30th season of Dancing With the Stars began. It also had a historic pairing of JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson. They are the only contestants so far who formed a couple of the same gender.

A Unique Dancing With The Stars First Episode

JoJo Siwa, the singer, made her Dancing With the Stars debut alongside Jenna Johnson, a professional dancer, on the premiere episode of the show. The pair danced a quick step while Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?” played.

Johnson and Siwa’s high-energy Dancing With the Stars performance got the night’s highest score. The total score received was 29 points from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli, and Len Goodman.

Goodman was all praised for the dance. Tonioli claimed that he was happy enough to gleefully fly to the rafters. Inaba pointed out how Johnson and Siwa relied on and continuously supported their partners even when Siwa had some slip-ups during her Dancing With the Stars performance.

The show’s fans also heaped praise on the performance of Johnson and Siwa. Many called it a phenomenal performance and shared their delight over the actresses’ successful and historic premiere appearance on Dancing With the Stars.

Many Twitter users also re-iterated the importance of same-sex pairings similar to theirs being more publicized. A user pointed out that his niece, who is only 5, thinks of Siwa as an idol. As such, it was extremely heart-warming to see her put forward examples like that.

Many of the audience also said that the show knew it would be the best for the night, and had thus shown the performance as the last one. Several have already picked their winners for the season, and they are Johnson and Siwa.
