The U.S. Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Robert Wood, strongly condemned Iran’s recent attack on Israel and issued a stern warning that Iran would face consequences for any further aggression towards the United States, Israel, or their allies. Speaking at a U.N. Security Council briefing on the Middle East situation, Wood emphasized that Iran would be held accountable for its actions. He clarified that the U.S. stance was defensive and not aimed at escalation.
Robert Wood Against Iran
Wood attributed the attack squarely to Iran, asserting that its intention was to cause significant harm to Israel and endanger populations in neighboring countries such as Jordan and Iraq. He urged the Security Council to respond decisively to Iran’s actions, emphasizing the need for condemnation and a cessation of attacks by Iran and its proxies.
The United States pledged support for Israel’s right to self-defense and indicated plans to coordinate closely with Israeli leaders. This assurance came after a phone call between President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which Biden reaffirmed America’s unwavering commitment to Israel’s security.
The Iranian attack, consisting of approximately 350 missiles and drones launched at Israel, was mostly intercepted by Israeli and allied forces. The U.S. condemnation of the attack reiterated its solidarity with Israel and its determination to counter threats to its security.
