A day after former President Donald Trump called prosecutors investigating him “racists” and said his supporters should stage the largest protests ever seen in cities like Atlanta if the prosecutors do something illegal or wrong, Fani Willis, the district attorney of Fulton County, Georgia, has asked the FBI for assistance in providing security for buildings and staff.
Fani Willis Is Concerned About Her Safety
Trump’s efforts to reverse Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results are being investigated by DA Fani Willis and her staff. On May 2, a special grand jury will be convened as part of the inquiry.
Trump railed against Fani Willis, as well as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr., and New York Attorney General Letitia James. They are investigating Trump’s business empire, at a rally in Conroe, Texas, on Saturday night, without identifying them. The three people are all black. There was no proof of racial prejudice given by Trump.
Fani Willis requested a risk assessment of buildings surrounding her office and the courtroom, where the grand jury will convene in a letter to JC Hacker, FBI special agent in charge of the Atlanta field office.
She also requested FBI officers to offer protection, claiming that Trump’s statements had escalated security worries this weekend. Before Trump’s event, Willis said her office had already received communications from individuals who were dissatisfied with the inquiry.
Willis, a Democrat, linked the prospect for violence in her probe to the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. If Trump wins the White House again, he stated Saturday night that he would entertain pardoning individuals indicted in partnership with the horrific assault. Several prominent Republicans, including New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, and Maine Senator Susan Collins, promptly ridiculed Trump’s notion.
