Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission sent warning letters to a couple of sellers between 10 April to 13 April over the sale of products that they have claimed to treat, cure or prevent COVID-19.
The FDA sent a warning to four sellers, namely; Herbs of Kedem, Earthley Wellness dba, Gaia Arise Farms Apothecary, and GBS dba Alpha Arogya India Pvt Ltd and asked them to take “immediate action” to rectify any violations. Five other companies also got warning letters between 7 April and 8 April.
Reportedly, at present, there are no medicines approved by the FDA that are being sold as a cure for the deadly virus.

The letter urged the sellers to review product labels, company websites or any other promotional materials to make sure that no products are sold as safe for the use of Coronavirus related purposes but have not been approved by the FDA.
The letter also said that the consumers are being requested not to buy any product that is not approved by any agency, and are deceivingly being sold as effective for treatment or prevention or treatment of COVID-19.
Various medical associations have been receiving similar warnings since the end of March.
Reportedly, at present, there are no medicines approved by the FDA that are being sold as a cure for the deadly virus.
Meanwhile, social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram have also taken steps to curb the circulation of fake news about the novel coronavirus.
