On the morning of Saturday, about a day before the 2021 Indy 500 started, an unscheduled meeting took place. It only had the most exclusive members of the event as the usual drivers’ meeting was adjourned. This year there were 33 competitors. Rick Mears, Al Unser Senior, and A.J. Foyt, the only ones to win the 104-year-old race 4 times, stood beside the Borg-Warner Trophy. After the results, Helio Castroneves added his name to the list.

A Dream Come True In The Indy 500

The Indy 500 is also called Racing’s Greatest Spectacle. In that impromptu meeting, someone had even shouted that no one else will achieve the feat again. But Helio proved them wrong. Mears was the youngest in the group, completing his four wins in 1991. He had told us to remember that someone else has the chance on race day.

Honestly, most of us had overlooked Helio Castroneves. Until on the afternoon of Sunday, he was taking the lead with only six laps left. Then, he took the lead for the final time as he covered the last 2.5 miles left.

All the fans attending, suddenly remembered all the love and adoration for him when he was at the top. He had been called Spider-Man when he was climbing the catch fence more often. Castroneves later said that he was at a point when people sort of felt sorry for him while being nice to him. But he restated that the fans are the ones who still want him to win. But as time went by, the lack of results made people forget his contention. But he hopes the fans will not forget him anymore.

Of course, Castroneves is now 46 years old. He had won the Indy 500 for the first time in 2001. On Sunday, he had a shot of 30-1 by oddsmakers of Las Vegas.
