Jackson State football bagged a victory against Grambling State this Saturday, March 6. The game has become the first victory for Deion Sanders as the head coach of the team.

Jackson State football played against the five-time winners, Grambling State at Eddie G. Robinson. This victory broke the winning streak of their opposition and meant much more for the team’s head coach Sanders. This was Sanders’ first win in Southwestern Athletic Conference. According to the final score, Jackson State football crushed Grambling State in a 33-28 win in Louisiana.

This game meant a lot for the Jacksons as they had defeated Grambling State in the Eastern division of SWAC in 2012, which is almost a decade ago. This is also the first home loss for Grambling State against any team since 2015.

Sanders Guide Jackson State Football To A 33-28 Win

Reports suggest that this is the first season of Deion Sanders as a coach. It is also interesting to note that Troy Aikman surprised Jackson State football coach, Sanders before his debut season. The former Dallas Cowboys teammate, Aikman, came to the field with a hug and a conversation before the opening match of the season.

Sanders and Aikman go a long way back. They played together during the mid-1990s. Together, they also won the Super Bowl of 1995. Aikman currently works as an analyst of the NFL.

To come back to the game, there was a definite touchdown that could have sealed the game in the favor of Grambling State in quarter 4.  However, Jackson State football recovered from that stage and made Keilon Elder fumble at the JSU yard 1 line. It was far from a perfect performance by Jackson State, as they had missed two extra points and a short field goal, but the players showed a lot of grit and determination. Currently, Jackson State is 2-0 under Deion Sanders, as it defeated NAIA team, Edward Waters, 53-0 in his head-coaching debut.
