James Clyburn, the House Majority Whip, did suggest that Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin should stop their foolishness. This would be with regards to their efforts in opposing the Democrats’ plans to suspend the filibuster to pass the legislation of voting rights.

Clyburn recently appeared on State of the Union at CNN on Sunday, where Jake Tapper, the host, noted that both Manchin and Sinema had pledged their support towards the Freedom to Vote Act, as well as the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, but they oppose going against the filibuster to pass the bills necessary for the Acts.

James Clyburn Was Frank In His Statements At CNN

The last week saw Sinema stating that eliminating the 60-vote threshold would simply guarantee that the Democrats end up losing a critical tool that they needed to safeguard their democracy from threats that would come in the ensuing years. To which Tapper asked James Clyburn if she had a point. He mentioned that the Democrats could need the filibuster as soon as 2025 to stop the Republicans from pushing through even harsher voting restrictions.

To this, James Clyburn responded that Sinema was not right in what she was stating, as he noted that the Senate had just got around the filibuster in their attempt to raise the limit for debt. He further mentioned that no one had asked her to eliminate the filibuster as it was there for all of the issues that may be policy issues. But when it came to the Constitution of the United States of America, no one person should be able to remark that someone was putting a hole in their ability to vote- and that was what was going on here.

It was James Clyburn’s ardent request to both Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema that they should stop their foolishness- because if they did not protect the vote with everything that they had, they would be losing out on the country going forward.
