Jean Smart is definitely a proud mother- something that was visible as she introduced her 13-year-old son Forrest at the Emmys. The 70-year-old actress introduced her son while they walked the red carpet on Sunday, and later thanked both of her sons as she accepted the win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her acting chops in Hacks. In her speech, Smart called her sons ‘my two wonderful and unselfish children, who have been courageous in their own ways.’ She also paid tribute to her late husband, Richard Gilliland, who had passed away earlier this year.
Jean Smart Is Grateful To Her Sons For Being So Courageous
Jean Smart mentioned that before she could go on to thank others, she would definitely have to acknowledge her late husband who had passed away six months back. She stated how he was the driving pillar behind her success, and she wouldn’t be where she was if not for him. She thanked him for being there for her all the time, which allowed her to showcase her acting prowess to the entire world. The alum of Designing Women had birthed Connor in 1989 and recently adopted Forrest from China in 2009.
It wouldn’t be amiss to say that it wasn’t just Jean Smart who was proud of her children- for her son Forrest spared no chances of informing Karamo Brown on the red carpet that he was also very proud of his mother, and she deserved all the awards that she received, for she had worked really hard. Smart was naturally very verklempt over her child’s response, and admitted that she did have her moments of guilt- especially when she had to stay away from working.
The current year has been somewhat of a roller-coaster for Jean Smart. From a professional point of view, the star received rave reviews for all the shows she was a part of- be it Kate Winslet’s mother in the Mare of Easttown, or her starring role as a stand-up comedian in Hacks. But from a personal point of view, she suffered the devastating loss of her husband.
