Kentucky GOP Governor Has Been Testing The Influence Of Donald Trump

The Kentucky GOP is about to decide their nominees for governor on Tuesday in the first-ever major primary since the midterm elections that took place the previous year. There is one such implication for the GOP presidential race of 2024, as well as the battle for control over the Senate. The race is going to test the influence of former President Donald Trump with the voters in the GOP as he seeks a major return to the White House.

It will also be weighing the appetite of the conservatives for cultural fights over transgender rights, crime-fighting, and several other important notions. There are three states that will be hosting the governor’s races this year, with Kentucky likely to be the most competitive of the lot. The other states are Louisiana and Mississippi.

Kentucky GOP Is About To Take On The Democratic Governor

The Kentucky GOP race to take on the Democratic Governor Andy Beshear has been quite a violent race. Daniel Cameron, the State Attorney General, also a former staffer for Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell, did enter the race as one of the favorites. But Kelly Craft, who previously served as the ambassador of Donald Trump to Canada, and then to the United Nations, and is the wife of Joe Craft, has routinely pumped millions of dollars into ads on television in this race.

Other Kentucky GOP candidates include Ryan Quarles, the commissioner of state agriculture, who has already focused his campaign on the rural regions of the state, Mike Harmon, the state auditor, Eric Deters, the conservative activist, and Alan Keck, the Mayor of Somerset. At the same time, Beshear’s bid for another term could be one of the most important bellwethers for 2024, when his part would be defending Senate seats in other red states- Montana, Ohio, and West Virginia.
