How Ronaldo Saved The Day For Manchester United

Villareal had scored first with the help of Paco Alcacer in the 53rd minute. This goal was leveled by Alex Telles by a beautiful volley making it one for both sides.

Manchester United had faced defeat in 3 of their last 4 games which included an upset against Young Boys in the opening game of the group. People expected the Red Devils to slip once again.

An upset looked imminent for long stretches of the game. The visitors were not sharp enough in front of the goal which was a boon for Manchester United. The game would have been over in the first half if it wasn’t so.

Manchester United was missing Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Harry Maguire at the back and was opened up on various instances. Dalot endured a difficult 45 minutes in the first half.

Danjuma had tormented Dalot and tested the United keeper twice, who made brilliant saves.

Alcacer scored by turning in a low cross by Danjuma. This was leveled by Telles, who scored a volley from a Bruno Fernandes set piece.

Cavani missed a great chance for United, heading the ball wide.

The main excitement of the game came near the stoppage time when Fredd whipped a cross in from the left which was headed by Ronaldo towards Lingard. He fed the ball back to Ronaldo who launched the ball into the net.

Old Trafford erupted in joy and Ronaldo picked up a yellow for ripping off his shirt.

Currently, Atalanta is top of the group with 4 points, one ahead of Manchester United and Young Boys and Villareal is bottom with only one point.
