Officials in Arizona have issued a subpoena to Mike Roman, a former Trump 2020 campaign official, as part of a criminal investigation into attempts to overturn Joe Biden’s victory, according to sources familiar with the situation. Roman, also named as a co-defendant in the Georgia election subversion case involving Donald Trump, faces scrutiny from Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, who is overseeing the state-level probe.
Mayes Scrutinizes Mike Roman
Mayes, a Democrat, is reportedly nearing a decision on potential criminal charges, indicating an acceleration in the investigation ahead of the 2024 presidential election, where Trump is anticipated to run against Biden once more. The focus of the investigation has been on the 11 fake pro-Trump electors from Arizona and organizers of the effort, though individuals associated with Trump’s national campaign are also under scrutiny.
Mayes emphasized the seriousness of the matter, stating that justice must be ensured not only for Arizonans but for the entire nation. A spokesperson for the Arizona attorney general’s office declined to comment on the matter.
Prosecutors in other states, including Michigan, Georgia, and Nevada, have already brought criminal charges against individuals involved in similar schemes. Kenneth Chesebro, a pro-Trump attorney identified as one of Trump’s unindicted co-conspirators, has been interviewed by Arizona prosecutors. Chesebro, who played a significant role in the fake electors plot, has pleaded guilty in a racketeering case in Georgia and has cooperated with investigations in multiple states.
Communication records reveal Chesebro’s close collaboration with Roman leading up to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, providing further insight into the coordinated efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
