Poland and Hungary Use Coronavirus to Punish Opposition

While the Coronavirus is affecting countries all over the globe, a few authoritarian governments are using it to bring more power to themselves. The government of Hungary and Poland used the pandemic to crush their opposition. The EU has repurposed around 37 billion euros to help poor and new members to fight the virus. Despite being less affected than Spain and Italy, Poland and Hungary got a lot more money. The EU has kept shut after this misallocation of money which made people question how much power do these authoritarian governments have over the EU. Poland’s government is also pushing for court changes and a chamber for “extraordinary control”.
