Disgraced Republican Sean Parnell, who had been previously endorsed by Donald Trump recently announced that he would be suspending his candidacy. This news came after a judge allowed Laurie Snell, the estranged wife of the Republican, the primary custody over the three children that the couple has- which was made public in an order on Monday.
The judge also decreed that Parnell was definitely guilty of committing some abusive acts towards his wife in the past. To this, Parnell mentioned that his children meant the world to him, and while he did plan on asking the court to reconsider the decision, he couldn’t possibly continue with a Senate campaign.
Sean Parnell Loses Custody Of His Children
Taylor Budowich, the spokesman for Donald Trump, recently mentioned that Sean Parnell had been in conversation with the ex-President on Monday where he confided in his plans. The ex-President had backed Parnell, who was not only an Army veteran but also a former candidate for Congress back in September. Pat Toomey, the GOP Senator will also not be running for reelection, and Democrats can view the seat as their top opportunity as they blaze into the 2022 midterms.
Sean Parnell might have been able to slip under the radar if the situation was different, but the allegations that were raised against him by his wife did bring about certain concerns amongst the Republicans as to his viability as a potential candidate. In the judge’s report, it was mentioned that the court found Snell to be quite a credible witness when it came to her allegations of domestic abuse- yet interestingly, this wasn’t the most significant factor which decided the final custody decision.
In his statement, Sean Parnell disagreed with the ruling decreed and was quite devastated by the entire decision. He also had developed plans of asking the court to reconsider the decision.
