Tony Navarrete, the Democratic lawmaker from the state of Arizona, recently resigned from his post on Tuesday. This change comes in the wake of child molestation charges lined up against him. The Senator resigned ‘effective immediately’ according to the multiple copies of his letter of resignation which were shared by all the local reporters.

In a brief message which was addressed to Karen Fann, the Republican Senate President, the disgraced Senator stated that he was officially resigning from his post as the state senator for District 30.

Police officers working for the Police Department in Phoenix went on to arrest Tony Navarrete after they received information about the sexual conduct between him and a minor which dated back to 2019. The 35-year-old former Senator was arraigned on Friday for three felonies of a sexual nature with a minor, as well as a Class 4 felony for trying to initiate contact with the said minor.

He was also charged with two Class 6 felonies for initiating sexual conduct with the same minor. As far as court proceedings go, Navarrete didn’t enter a plea in his first court appearance.

Several legislators throughout the state were clamoring for Tony Navarrete to resign after he was arrested. Minority Leader for the Senate, Rebecca Rios, stated that it was the correct thing to do following the charges lined against him. She also stated that they believed in the Arizona Judicial Branch which would definitely deliver justice for the victim. ‘

Tony Navarrete, on his part, completely denied the allegations that were lined against him- as he was more worried about how he wouldn’t be able to serve the constituents of District 30 considering the situation at hand.
