The White House has confirmed that Chinese hackers have breached US government emails. Other than the US governmental emails, Chinese hackers have breached around 12 other US-based organizations including Microsoft. According to the statements issued by the White House, this breach, seen as an act of Chinese espionage, was aimed at collecting classified US government information. While investigations are on, White House officials have carried out their assessments of the degree of information breached.
The State Department was the first federal agency to identify the hacking, and immediately informed the government, as well as Microsoft. Sources working. closely with the ongoing investigation, has informed CNN, that the China-based hackers have targeted a few federal government agencies and email accounts of a small number of US government officials of each federal agency. Similar email breaches were carried out by Chinese hackers in the US Congress, however, it has not been disclosed who has been targeted. The Biden-led administration has faced similar cybersecurity breaches before and the present hacking issue will further enhance the cybersecurity monitoring.
Cocaine Found In The White House
In a completely separate incident last week, cocaine was recovered from the White House. The White House cocaine incident has raised concerns among citizens and the government and is under investigation. However, law enforcement officers have stated that it is difficult to trace or identify the person involved, as the area from where the cocaine was recovered was the West Wing, which has a high daily footfall. CCTV footage too is not of much help, unless the person had shown the drug to the camera. White House Karine Jean-Pierre had met reporters enquiring regarding the issue, and had informed that the President as well as the First Family were not in residence when the cocaine was found.
