It was finally a brilliant finish for Jon Rahm as he claimed his 1st major title at the 121st US Open. He won with a 4-under 67 which gave him a single shot victory over Louis Oosthuizen.

Tim Michelson, Jon Rahm’s coach, praised his passion and said that he gets misunderstood because of it. And his brilliance was there for all to see as he produced a 20-footer birdie on No.18. that gave him the clubhouse lead. And he celebrated that with a punch that reminded one of Tiger Woods.

Oosthuizen had bogeyed at No.17 and fallen two back. He had a chance to tie on No.18 with an eagle. And when Oosthuizen failed to find the target with the 3rd shot, Jon Rahm had made it. The first-ever for the Spaniard.

And Torrey Pines has been lucky for Jon Rahm. He got his 1st career tour win here. He also got engaged to Kelley at this venue. And finally, it is at Torrey Pines that he has won his 1st major.

Grit And Determination Wins It For Jon Rahm

The win has taken him to the top of the world rankings. Just 2 weeks ago the 26-year old had tested positive for COVID. He had to pull out of The Memorial holding a 6-shot lead.

Legends Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player were the first to congratulate the champion for the victory. Jack was effusive in his praise for Rahm’s brilliant finish when he shot 2 birdies in the final 2 holes.

Jon Rahm displayed grit and class over the last two weeks following his disappointing withdrawal from The Memorial.

It was a just reward for his mature approach and the right mindset. This US Major will be remembered for its quality of golf. And it will also be remembered as he went beyond fellow country greats like Jose Maria Olazabal and Seve Ballesteros to become the first Spaniard to win a USGA title.
