UCLA Baseball Alumni Shine in 2024 MLB Opening Day Rosters

Ten former players from the UCLA baseball program showcased their talents as the 2024 Major League Baseball season commenced on Thursday, earning spots on various team rosters.

Four distinguished Bruins secured places on active rosters: Jake Bird and Michael Toglia for the Colorado Rockies, Griffin Canning for the Los Angeles Angels, and Brandon Crawford for the St. Louis Cardinals.

UCLA’s MLB Legacy Extends to Management

Dave Roberts and Torey Lovullo, both UCLA alumni, resumed their managerial roles with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks, respectively, marking UCLA as the sole college institution with multiple alums managing MLB teams.

Additionally, four Bruins found themselves on the Major League Injured List: Gerrit Cole, Matt McLain, Garrett Mitchell, and Zack Weiss.
