1984: De Blasio Urges New Yorkers To Rat Out Social Distancing Violations By Texting Photos To Authorities

Orwell would be rolling around in his grave, seeing the real-life portrayal of his 1984. The Mayor of New York recently announced that the best way to deal with anyone breaking quarantine would be to tattle on them to the local authorities. While it may seem like a very juvenile thing to do, let’s just stop you right there. This is very Orwell-esque, and if one isn’t observant enough, we are almost living in his world.

“How do you report places that aren’t enforcing social distancing? It’s simple: just snap a photo and text it to 311-692,” de Blasio wrote Saturday on Twitter.

De Blasio believes that if they actually tattled on their neighbors breaking quarantine, it would actually benefit the entire area. He assured that there was no ulterior motive to his plan. All he wants is people to be separated according to city guidelines – something extremely difficult to be followed when New York is the city referred to.

As it goes, the tweet wasn’t taken by the citizens very kindly. Some of them went on Twitter to show the similarity between De Blasio, and Adolf Hitler.

Tough luck!
