Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat, weighed in on the contentious political discussion of abortion procedure time limits on Sunday by stating that she is in favor of placing third-trimester pregnancy which limits abortion. In addition to reiterating her support for codifying Roe v. Wade, Klobuchar told CNN’s Dana Bash on ‘State of the Union’ that she supports permitting limitations in the third trimester that isn’t interfering with the life or well-being of the women. At 27 weeks, a pregnancy reaches its third trimester.

The Unorthodox Opinion From Amy Klobuchar

A 2020 report by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that less than 1% of abortions are carried out at 21 weeks or later. Since the historic US Supreme Court decision to reverse Roe v. Wade and end the federal constitutional right to abortion statewide one year ago, abortion has gained increased political clout. Since the decision, more than a dozen US states have outlawed or greatly restricted access to the operation.

“What I believe – and I intend to be upfront about this – is Roe v. Wade which not only safeguards the woman’s life and health but also has constraints,” Klobuchar stated on Sunday.

“I believe that’s the best course of action. However, if you observe what they are up to, you will see that one of the leading Republicans, Dana, is calling for an end to abortion. Just last night, Trump was on TV bragging about the Supreme Court justices he had appointed who had overturned Roe v. Wade. In 2019, Amy Klobuchar told Bloomberg that “there are restrictions  in the third trimester that are extremely significant  about  except for the health of the woman.” Klobuchar has consistently advocated for certain limits on late-term abortions.
